Since 1937, the Ducks Unlimited organization has raised more than 1.2 billion dollars to conserve over 9 million acres of critical wildlife habitat in each of the 50 states, in all of the Canadian provinces and in key areas of Mexico. More than 900 wildlife species, including 160 that are threatened or endangered, thrive on DU projects.
The wildlife areas that we conserve benefit everyone…
Year in and year out, DU strives to spend 80% of revenue directly on conservation. Here in our home state, Virginia Ducks Unlimited volunteers raised more than $200,000 that was used to fight back against rapid habitat loss. This translated into a significant record of achievement in 2004.
Restored: 298 Wetland Acres & 100 River/Upland Acres
Protected: 432 Acres
Assisted: 1,871 requests for technical support answered
Much more remains to be done…
The list of DU’s priorities is long…and touches virtually every region of our state. We are determined to provide resources to preserve and protect some of our most prime habitat, including:
• The Chesapeake Bay Ecosystem – Ducks Unlimited is aggressively targeting wetland restoration in the Chesapeake Bay with a primary goal of helping residents within the watershed preserve their waterfowl traditions by conserving and restoring wetlands and adjacent habitat.
• The Potomac River Watershed
• The James River Watershed
• The York River Watershed
…and your assistance plays a vital role.
We have an opportunity to reverse these alarming trends. Ducks Unlimited has launched an ambitious program to restore and protect lost and threatened habitat across Virginia. You can leave a significant legacy by helping us restore as many acres – both upland and wetland – as possible.
To continue to grow and succeed we need your support. Ducks Unlimited is a volunteer driven, membership~based~grassroots organization. Please join – or renew your current membership, by contacting Nancy Rohr at NRohr@Comcast.net.
